Good News for Stove Owners:

Wood Burning Emissions are Falling!

At Kindling n Things, we know our customers love the warmth, comfort, and reliability of a real wood fire. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about air quality and wood burning, so we wanted to share some fantastic news from the latest national data.

The 2024 UK emissions report from Defra is out, and it shows that the wood-burning sector is leading the way in air quality improvements.

The Headlines: Emissions are Down

The new statistics show a significant drop in domestic burning emissions:

  • PM2.5 emissions fell by over 7% in 2024 alone.

  • The total contribution of home burning to UK emissions has dropped from 28% in 2020 to just 20% today.

  • Crucially, domestic burning emissions have now stayed lower than transport emissions for two years in a row.

Why is this happening?

This isn’t happening by accident. It’s because of the choices you are making as responsible stove owners. The reduction is being driven by:

  1. Better Stoves: Moving away from old-fashioned open fires to modern, high-efficiency Ecodesign stoves. In fact, a modern stove burning dry wood accounts for less than 1% of the UK’s total PM2.5 emissions!

  2. Better Fuel: This is where we come in! Using high-quality, dry wood (with less than 20% moisture) is the single biggest thing you can do to reduce smoke and emissions.

  3. Better Habits: Following "Ready to Burn" standards and keeping your chimney swept ensures your fire burns hotter and cleaner.

Looking Forward

The UK has actually met its 2030 emission reduction targets four years early, proving that wood burning and clean air can go hand-in-hand when done right.

At Kindling n Things, we are committed to providing you with the best quality fuels to keep your home cozy and the air clear. By choosing the right wood and using modern appliances, you can continue to enjoy your fire with peace of mind, knowing that the "wood-burning revolution" is working.

Stay warm, stay clean, and keep burning bright!
